I'm a contemporary artist working from Cape Town, South Africa.
My practice begins with a simple question: what does the way we see reveal about ourselves?
I often start with people - portraits, figures, or subjects recalled from memory - exploring how memory, emotion, and lived experience shape the way we see them. Painting has become a way of learning how to observe, not simply by recording what's in front of us, but by paying attention to what emerges through the process of looking and making.
I began painting in 2023, initially drawn to the landscapes of the Western Cape and the challenge of learning to observe through paint. As my practice has evolved, my focus has gradually shifted towards human presence and the expressive possibilities of paint. Through layered acrylic paint, colour, gesture, and continual revision, I allow each painting to evolve rather than work towards a fixed outcome.
I'm interested in paintings that don't reveal everything at once. Forms can appear, dissolve, and re-emerge, leaving space for the viewer to interpret what they see. Different people can discover entirely different things within the same image, and I'm interested in what those differences might reveal about the person looking.
Ultimately, I want my paintings to invite viewers to slow down and look again. The longer we spend with an image, the more it has the potential to change - not because the painting changes, but because we do.
I work from my home studio in Cape Town, continuing to develop a body of work exploring perception, memory, emotion, and the ways our experiences influence how we see.
